The Peak and the Pit

Hola Familia,
This last week was great!  Sister Smith and I had a lot of success and some amazing lessons. I wish I had time to tell yall everything that happened this week..... but I don't so I will give the Peak and the Pit of the week :)

Pit:
Probably the worst thing that happened this week was when we went to visit a family (the best family in our teaching pool) and we found out that we had reactivated their family to church, the Union Baptist Church haha.
We started teaching this family about 3 or 4 weeks ago, and things were going great with them. When we first met this family they told us that they both were raised Baptist, but they stopped going to the baptist church because they didn't agree with the teachings of the Preacher in the First Baptist Church. So we began teaching them the restoration and described to them the great apostasy and we helped them to understand the goodness of the faith that they were raised in, but that the Baptist Church does not contain the fullness of Jesus Christ's teachings and the Priesthood authority. They really enjoyed that lesson.
The next time we saw them we taught them the Plan of Salvation and they enjoyed that as well. So this last week we had an appointment set with them for Friday night and they cancelled Friday morning, because their daughter had come down with the flu. Sister Smith and I, knowing if we didn't see them Friday that it would be two weeks total that we would not be able to teach them. WE decided that even though they cancelled, we wanted to stop in and invite them to Church on Sunday and leave them with a commitment that they could do before next week. So we go to their home and the mom answered hesitantly, slightly shocked that we are there, but she invites us in. We talk with her for a minute and she seems so happy and we asked her how things have been going. She proceeded to tell us that they decided to go to church last week ( Sister Smith and I looked at each other thinking, did they slip in the back of the chapel without us knowing last week.)
Excited, I asked "how did you like it?" She said, " We loved it, we felt more welcomed then we have ever felt in a church. everyone said hi to us, and the preacher had a great message!  When yall started teaching us about Jesus Christ we decided it was time for us to go back to church, the kids have been so interested in learning more about the scriptures and going to church." We replied that is great we are so happy that you liked church.  She replied, " Oh us too, I have been wanting to visit the Union Baptist church for awhile now, and I am so glad that we did. But we still plan to come visit you church one of these days :)"
My heart just dropped when she said this.  Sister Smith invited her to continue to read the Book of Mormon and to come to church with us tomorrow" then the mom said it was time for us to go. As Sister Smith and I walked down their driveway we felt so much disappointment and a slight amount of rage, saying comments like, " we should go collect our check tomorrow from the Baptist church for helping them reactivate their members."
Sister Smith and I have come to peace that we did fulfill part of our purpose to invite others to come unto Christ, haha.  Obviously when we see them next time we have a little more expounding to do with the Restoration lesson.  We find peace in knowing that God has a plan for this family and they are at least starting to act in faith by reading their scriptures and recognizing the importance of church attendance.

Peak:
This week we started teaching a new lady named Sally Singles, and we taught her the Restoration Lesson and she started crying when Sister Smith said the first vision. Sally committed to being baptized !! It was great.
There are a lot of details that i don't have time to write out in my email today, but just know that Sally Singles is a Miracle!!

Sorry out of time, the Church is true and the book is blue!

Happy New Year!

Well it is now 2014 and I have almost been a missionary for a year now.... Pretty crazy stuff. Oh I received some of the BEST NEWS EVER this morning, Sister Abernathy, Stake Presidents wife in the Madison Stake, sent me this email

Hermana I just sent a copy of this e-mail to Hermana Knecht as well. You might have already learned about our good news here in the Madison Stake... but all the same I thought you might like to see this. No doubt your hard work in the Lebanon area was helpful in bringing about this great progress! Much thanks and love to you!
The stake presidency announces the creation of the Lebanon Second Branch today. The primary language for this branch is Spanish. Spanish speaking members within the Lebanon Ward boundaries have the option of attending the Lebanon Second Branch. Arturo Salazar was sustained as branch president with Octavio Luna and Zion Carrillo as counselors in the branch presidency. About 50 members were in attendance for their first sacrament meeting.

It was so awesome to receive this news. I am so excited for the Hispanic members and investigators in Lebanon to now have a branch :) The 6 months that I got to spend serving in Lebanon now feels like a great accomplishment!!!

Things here in Manchester are going really well and we continue to work towards having a Manchester Branch!! We have our first zone meeting of the transfer this Wednesday, and I will be giving a training, so I hope it goes well :)

Have a great week and continue to look for daily missionary opportunities!!

Merry Christmas!

Hey Fam Merry Christmas!!!

I hope yall have the best Christmas ever!! I feel so grateful that this Christmas I have the privilege of sharing the gospel with others!! The knowledge of the gospel of Jesus Christ is the number one gift that I have ever received and will ever receive ( cheesy right haha but it is soooo true)

As I have taken some extra time this week to reflect on the life and mission of Jesus Christ, I have felt so overwhelmingly blessed that I get to experience a fraction of a fraction of a fraction how great the joy Jesus Christ had to of felt when he completed the task of suffering for our sins. Then making it possible for all of his brothers and sister to return to our Father!! All to often I find myself feeling so sad after thinking about Christ's death on the cross, while yes it is unbearably sad that a group of people could be so wicked to crucify our Savior and Redeemer.  But, after Christ's Crucifixion and Resurrection he had completed the task that He was sent forth to accomplish; Giving all mankind the gift of overcoming physical death and the opportunity to overcome our spiritual death as well!!

The work is not fully completed until we have shared this amazing message with all the inhabitants of the world!!  So, this Christmas let us all open our mouths and share this beautiful message with others!!!

I love yall so much and I pray that God will bless us with many missionary opportunities!!!

Have a Merry Christmas!

Post Thanksgiving (12/2/2013)

Hello All

I am doing great and I am still stuffed from Thanksgiving because we had 4 dinners that day. Everyone was fighting over who got to feed us, so... we just decided to eat with them all.
We started the day out at the Andersons
9:00- Andersons with an investigator family for breakfast
10:00- Turkey Bowl- I got a touchdown " And YES mother and father it was approved by our mission president to play in a thanksgiving turkey bowl that day"
1:00- Lunch with the Longs we had a traditional thanksgiving meal, there were about 30 people in attendance and the majority of them were less actives. A new southern food I got to try was fried stuffing.
5:00- Dinner with the Yockey's we had a roast and rice
7:00- Dinner with Claudia "investigator" and we ate carne asada

So yes, I wanted to hurl at the end of the night haha

On Saturday, Manchester had its Christmas parade and all the missionaries walked behind the church float and passed out pass-along cards and candy canes :)

LOVE YALL

I'm Staying in Manchester!

It is time for another Transfer...... So for transfers I am staying in Manchester and receiving Sister Smith.  Hermana Schmit is going to the Buena Vista Branch in Hermitage. I am so sad to be losing Hermana Schmit, I really enjoyed my time with her, we got a lot done in these last two transfers together and really pushed each other to be better every day. The great part is that I know that she and I will be friends for life and she is also going to BYU or UVU after her mission, so we will see each other a lot and we still plan on killing everyone in volleyball when we get home too, haha.

I have also been called to be a Sister Trainer Leader (haha it is a mouthful to say, we just say sister zone leader) my companion is also an STL. I am pretty excited to do this calling because I really enjoy giving trainings, so I am excited to do trainings at Zone conferences.  It will also be fun to go to MLC (mission leader council) as well. I hope I can really help the sisters of this mission, I want to help all the sisters know how amazing they truly are.  I also want the sisters to know that they can still be themselves and enjoy their mission. A lot of sisters can be fun suckers because they try too hard to be perfect, and then they end up becoming depressed, that is not okay by me. I don't do well with the whole pity party attitude. I hope that I can bring some joy into the sister's missionary work and teach them how to make the mission fun and enjoyable.

This last week we had a mission Christmas conference and we did a big white elephant gift exchange. We also did a scarf exchange with the sisters and the elders did a tie exchange.

Everything in Manchester is going great, our investigators are progressing and we are also getting close to making a branch in Manchester :) I love the people and I have felt such a love and passion for the work this last week. I would not choose to be anywhere else, but here this Christmas season. I am so grateful for our savior Jesus Christ, and I can testify that I know He lives. I feel so blessed this Christmas because I get the opportunity to share the message of our Savior with others!!!  IT IS PRETTY DANG AWESOME.

I love you guys and I keep all yall in my nightly prayers. I pray for your safety and that God will bless each of you with missionary opportunity's.
Love
Hermana Ayre
God Bless
